Purpose of Position

  • To provide technical support, perform routine and stat analyses of samples and to assist with supervision related tasks within the Clinical laboratory environment.


    • Key Responsibilities

  • Process routine bench work in laboratory in order to ensure efficient processing of specimens.

  • Perform administration tasks in order to ensure effective administration systems in the laboratory.

  • Supervise laboratory personnel to ensure that departmental objectives are achieved.

  • Train laboratory staff in order to ensure continuous development and education.

  • Provide technical support within laboratory in order to ensure the efficient flow of specimens and timeous resulting of specimen.

  • Perform Quality Control procedures in the laboratory in order to ensure best practices are upheld.

  • Maintain good client relations in order to promote the image of Ampath.
    • Candidate Requirements

    Required

  • National Diploma in Medical Technology (Clinical Pathology)

  • HPCSA registration as Medical Technologist (Clinical Pathology)4-5 years work experience as a Medical Technologist within a Pathology environment

  • Advanced understanding of pathology test procedures

  • Advanced knowledge of instrumentation and methodologies

  • Knowledge of test processes

  • Knowledge of Quality Control

  • Basic knowledge of MS Outlook

  • Basic knowledge of Excel

  • Basic knowledge of MS Word

  • Computer skills

  • Communication skills

  • Numerical reasoning skills


    • Advantageous

  • Supervision and/or MDP certificate and/or diploma

  • 1 year as Senior Medical Technologist in a Clinical laboratory environment

  • Knowledge of the Meditech system

  • Knowledge of Materials Management

  • Knowledge of Ampath’s safety, health and environment management policy
